Hawkins, Texas – The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels grinded out a five-set over Jarvis Christian College tonight (Sept. 12) 3-2 in Hawkins, Texas to improve to 5-3 on the season.
The Lady Evangels fell 25-18 in the first set, but rallied back to take the second 25-17 and then recorded a dominating 25-13 win in the third set to go up 2-1 in the match.
After Jarvis Christian evened the contest with a 25-19 win in the fourth, the Lady Evangels pulled together and closed out the win by a dramatic 15-13 tally in the decisive fifth set.
Larissa Runyan led four Lady Evangels in double-digit kills with 14, followed by Shannon Niemeier with 13. Laurel Church had 11 kills and Melissa Hoppal chipped in with 10.
Emily Lynch had a double-double of 41 assists and 11 digs, while Camera Broadnax recorded a team-best 18 digs.
The Lady Evangels will be right back in action tomorrow night (Sept. 13) at Randall University (formerly Hillsdale College) at 7 p.m. in Moore, Okla.
