OKLAHOMA CITY -- Brittney Stephens' team-leading ninth goal of the season came at a great time, as Stephens scored in the first overtime session to give the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels a 2-1 victory on Senior Day (Oct. 29) over the Southwestern Christian University Lady Eagles at Evangel Field.
Stephens' score came 4:33 into the overtime period when she gained possession and dribbled in for the win.
After Micah Bartram had put the Lady Eagles on top 1-0 at the 38:09 mark off a corner kick assist from Jahira Serrano, Keanni Barnes scored to bring the Lady Evangels even three minutes into the second half.
The Lady Evangels controlled the match to the tune of out-shooting the Lady Eagles 17-5 overall and 9-4 on-goal.
Stephens led the Lady Evangels (7-8-1, 4-5 SAC) with match-highs of seven shot attempts and four shots-on-goal. Kelsey Janko had four shots and two shots-on-goal.
Madison Donihoo stopped two shots in the net for the Lady Evangels, while Kaylie Naumann recorded seven saves for SCU (5-12, 3-6 SAC).
The Lady Evangels will now gear up for the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament, which will begin next week at campus sites. Currently, it appears the Lady Evangels will be the sixth seed and play at third seeded USAO, but official seedings, times and opponents will be announced soon.
