Greenville, SC – For the third time this season, Mid-America Christian University junior guard Sarai Rodriguez has been selected as the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the organization announced today (Jan. 10).
Each student-athlete has been nominated by his/her respective institution and exemplifies the Christian ideals held by the NCCAA.
Rodriguez earns this honor after averaging 21.5 points per game, along with 5.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and three steals in the Lady Evangels' two games this past week.
She was the team's high scorer in both outings, including 22 points in an 89-61 victory over St. Gregory's University.
The Austin, Texas native also shot the ball well from three-point distance, hitting seven of her 15 attempts from the perimeter while also making all eight of her attempts from the free-throw line.
Rodriguez leads the team and ranks second in the Sooner Athletic Conference with 20.7 ppg, while also ranking fourth in the league in three-point percentage (.417) and sixth in assists per game (4.07).
Rodriguez and the Lady Evangels are currently 12-3 under first-year head coach Hannah Moeller and will next host Wayland Baptist University Thursday evening (Jan. 12) at 6 pm inside the Gaulke Activity Center.
