Winfield, Kan. – The Mid-America Christian University Softball Evangels split two games against the Southwestern (Kan.) Lady Builders today (Mar. 7) in Winfield, Kan.
The Evangels took the opener 5-0 behind seven shutout innings from Morgan Wardlow.
Wardlow struck out one and scattered five hits and walked none.
Taryn Callender got the Evangels going in the first with a leadoff single and scored the game's first run on an RBI single from Katie Gracey.
Gracey then came through again with a two-run single in the fifth before a two-run double by Tiphani Napier in the sixth gave MACU the five-run margin.
Callender and Gracey each went 2-of-3 in the opening game victory for the Evangels.
The Lady Builders rebounded to win the nightcap 4-0 to salvage the split.
Southwestern got on the board with a two-run double by Allison Flinn in the first inning and then tacked on two more runs on a double by Cady Norton in the sixth inning.
Napier, Gracey and Mariah Treat each recorded two hits in the second game for the Evangels (5-11).
Peyton Timmerman blanked the Evangels over 6 1/3 innings, allowing nine hits and striking out one.
Flinn was three-of-four for the Lady Builders (7-15) in the second tilt.
The Evangels will next play at Texas Wesleyan University Friday afternoon (Mar. 10) at 1 pm in Ft. Worth, Texas.
