Sterling, Kan. -- Kelli Tolar's career-high 37 points were enough to give Mid-America Christian University head coach Seth Froese his first career victory in a 95-88 win tonight (Nov. 7) over the Sterling College Lady Warriors in the final day of the Warrior Classic in Sterling, Kan.
23 of Tolar's 37 points came in a dominating first half that saw the San Antonio, Texas native nail five-of-six from three-point range.
The Lady Evangels pulled away early, leading 30-21 after the first quarter and 54-36 at the break.
MACU increased the edge to 79-54 after three before the Lady Warriors fought back by outscoring the Lady Evangels 34-16 in the fourth quarter that created the final seven-point margin.
Tolar wound up shooting 12-of-18 overall and 6-of-8 from the perimeter. The Lady Evangels (1-1) had four score in double-figures overall, followed by Tierra Brown's 21 points and team-high 10 rebounds. Jamie Lamb scored 17 and Sarai Rodriguez had 13 points along with a game-high nine assists.
The Lady Warriors (0-3) received double-figure scoring from five players, led by 25 points from Hailey Davis. Jessica Princ recorded a double-double of 18 points and 12 boards for Sterling.
The Lady Evangels will next play Wednesday night (Nov. 11) at Bethel College. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. in N. Newton, Kan.
