OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels have placed five players on the All-Sooner Athletic Conference squad, the league released today (May 9).
All five student-athletes earned second-team honors, including: seniors Marki Dethloff, Tiffany Holt and Cassidy Hart along with junior pitchers Macie Crites and Morgan Wardlow.
Holt, Hart and Dethloff rank as the top three hitters for the Lady Evangels this season, while Crites and Wardlow have teamed up to help MACU record its lowest team earned-run-average (3.02) since joining becoming an NAIA program.
Holt led the team in hitting this season with a .352 batting average and a solid .464 on-base-percentage that would rank second in school history as an NAIA school, right behind Dethloff's current pace.
Hart hit .335 this season and paced the Lady Evangels in several offensive categories, including hits (55), runs (33), doubles (15), RBIs (31) and slugging percentage (.506).
Dethloff slugged a team-high five home runs this season and batted .322. She also recorded a .500 on-base-percentage that would rank first in school history as an NAIA school.
Crites won 11 games in the circle with a 2.05 ERA that would be tops in school history as an NAIA school. She also struck out a team-high 79 batters and limited the opposition to just a .239 batting average.
Wardlow also won 11 games and recorded a 3.35 ERA with 59 strikeouts.
Sparked by the duo of Crites and Wardlow, the Lady Evangels' team ERA of 3.02 is also tied for third in the SAC.
The Lady Evangels, under fifth-year head coach Robert Wakefield, are 26-25 overall this season and are preparing to host Central Baptist College in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Regional tournament tomorrow afternoon (May 10) at 2 p.m.
