McPherson, Kan. -- The McPherson College Lady Bulldogs jumped on top with two goals in the first half and went on to a 3-0 win over the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels in the season opener for both teams today (Aug. 27) in McPherson, Kan.
The Lady Bulldogs' first goal came at the 17:04 mark by Ana Guerrero before Danielle Kakebeen closed out the half with a score from Bereniz Velazquez with just 28 seconds left before halftime.
Cydney Lewis then finished out the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs (1-0) with a goal in the 57th minute.
The shot attempts were close, with the Lady Bulldogs outshooting the Lady Evangels 7-6 overall and 5-3 on-goal. Sophie Harris led the Lady Evangels (0-1) with two shots.
Kenady Maynard and Madison Donihoo each played one half in the net for the Lady Evangels, with one save each. Sheryl Evans recorded three saves for McPherson.
The Lady Evangels will next play next Thursday (Sept. 1) at the University of Houston-Victoria at 3 p.m. in Victoria, Texas.
